What I Learned as a Mother today...

That it's OK when your son plays with his sisters strollers... especially when he flips them overs, checks out the undercarriage and spins the wheels.

Realizing

So I've realized that in less than 2 months we've gone from 3 kids in diapers to 1 kid in diapers. and from me getting up 2-3x a night with my little man, that I (and he) are now sleeping thru the night! Now... don't get me wrong.. these things didn't just magically happen, that would have been sooo nice. but not the case.

We've been fighting the potty training battle for over a year, with me starting with Ella right before we got Keera (Oct 2007) and several times thru out 2008. At Christmas I knew i'd have to give it another kick at the can in the new year sometime, and SOOO was not looking forward to it. Really I was dreading it. I didn't not have a plan, or know when I was going to start. I was kinda going to wait till March, when my Mom offered to come up and help me tag team train them. But Keera got a nasty diaperrash/sore early Jan. So it just started that I had to let it air out. and so she was neked and I had her sit on the potty repeatedly.. she would always pee when ever we had her sit on the potty. So at that point it was more me trained in telling her to go sit on the potty every hour or so. I think it was a few days of not wearing a diaper around the house that I realized she was kinda getting it and I might as well run with it. and get miss Ella on the wagon too. So we had neked girls at our house.. Keera definitely picked it up faster. For naps we just continued with diapers, then moved to panites with plastic pants and then to neked and/or panties. again Keera stayed dry way more than Ella. It's only been this past 2 weeks that Ella has been consistently dry during nap time . Nap time was also her biggest problem for accidents or purposely putting panties on to poop in them. We've tryed the past week or so of Keera just in PJ"s at night as she was staying dry but it's about 60/40 for her being wet/dry in the am, so we're just back to diapers at bed time.

For Jett we did sleep training (modifided cry it out) some time late January. He fought it more than Ella did at his age. but we survived. It took about a week and now he's doing good. Except for when he's teething.. or an ear infection.

So it gives me some satisfaction to look back at the changes we've had already in 2009. I really never thought i'd see the day when my girls would be potty trained (dare I say it?) or that Jett would sleep thru the night!

Swimming

So we went swimming yesterday... my friend Jen I, called and offered to help us go, along with Della (a relative to her and family friend to us). The kids LOVED it. Ella couldn't get us out the door fast enough.. kept hauling around our swimgear bag saying "Do we have everything??" and was actually at the door ready to go when it was time (that NEVER happens).

So we get to the pool, met our friends and proceeded thru.. I took an couple minutes as they were trying to find my membership # etc. I come thru the doors and Jen is standing there, with a sad looking Ella, and Ella's clothing, sopping wet. I guess Jen took her eye's off Ella for a second, and with Ella a second is all she needs and she was off. By the time Jen got to her, she was in the pool. Fully clothed. Her pants were soaked to her knees and her top soaked to her elbows. And of course she's wearing fleece, a supper absorbent fabric. And of course it was minus 30 outside.

After that mishap we had a great time swimming. Ella LOVES the water as is like a fish at home at the pool. She goes down the big water slide by herself, and jumps in to the deep end of the pool with no fear. Keera likes to be gently floated around the pool safely atop a floaty mat. I don't think she would have gotten wet past her thighs if we hadn't gone down the water slide. She likes the slide and does great sitting on Mom's lap. Jett was his usual laid back self and had a great time floating in his 'floaties'. He quite liked splashing and in the shallow water used his floatie like a water-walker, walking around on his own! He could care less if he got splashed a 100 times in the face..and was just a happy camper.

So to get everyone home in dry clothes we had to do a little swich-a-roo.. Keera wore Jett's pants and Ella wore Keera's pants and Jett stayed warm in his snow suit. Ella's top was dry enough to wear home. It was a great morning and I REALLY appreciated the help as it's just not possible to much fun things with the kid on my own! Thanks Jen & Della!!

What I Learned as a Mother Today...

Not to feed your children blueberries
the day after you wash your kitchen floors.
Really don't feed them anything
if you want your floors to stay clean.

The House of Not Wellness

So we kinda have a gimped bunch over here... well I guess it's just mostly the men. Jett had a pretty ruff day on Monday and I am fairly certain he is getting his 1y molars. Just not napping well and wants to be held all the time. On top of that I saw him give his ear a tug so off the to the Dr. yesterday and yup he has an ear infection. I guess pretty common during teething as the body can only do so much (build teeth, fight infection etc). We got him some stronger meds as he had another ear infection not even a month ago.

He also had his first (and prob. not last) nose bleed. We were building a lego tower on my lap, Jett was hanging on to my leg and Ella was building. She went to put a piece on but it didn't fit right and popped off and hit Jett in the face, I didn't think it was a big owie as it was only like 4-6" from his face but must have been the angle it hit. After I gave him some snuggles I looked at him and his little nose was bleeding! Ella didn't know what to think, she kept saying "I don't like that" and then tryed to totally "change the subject" and start playing some eye spy game. I guess maybe it's the first time she's seen any sort of amount of blood? but she defiantly didn't like it. He was back to normal after 10min.

My other patient was Jayme, he had a root canal done on a tooth that's been bothering him for a while and I guess he never took Tylenol/advil before he went (like I told him too) and then the Dr. never gave him a perscrition and when the freezing came out he he was in ALOT of pain. So off to Shoppers I went to get some stronger, over the counter (which is Tylenol 1's) They did help and take off the edge.

So that's whats been going on for us the past few days. I hope to maybe take the kids swimming this afternoon as they have their "Teddy Bear Swim" from 2:30-4. I feel bad that I don't do more with the kids, but my 2 arms can only do so much with my 3 kiddo's, and then to have a runner on top of that (Ella) it just ain't gonna happen!

Kitchen Project

So 1st let me say let's pretend I didn't do this today. But I did.. it was looming over me and I've been ich'n to get it done. Once I have a thought in my head it drives me batty until it's completed. So I did this all by myself and am quite happy with it. Ideally I'd have liked the hooks a tad higher but not everybody that cooks at my home is over 6' tall so I did have to consider that :)...

Before (click on pics to enlarge)

After

Cramed pots and pans drawer PLUS pots on my stove top 80% of time PLUS pretty big wall space begging for some sort of decore EQUALS hanging your pots on your wall.

Did I mention I did this all by myself? and no drill, screwed by hand.

What I Learned as a Mother Today...

That on Ella's
BEST FRIEND
scale I rate a
#4
... and Daddie a #1

Friday Friday

So pretty standard day... had "play group" at the church this morning, with 3 of us there, Heather, Natasha and myself. But I think the kiddo's had fun and it was getting out of the house so it's all good.

Jay was home early today due to his rig breaking down again, but I'm not complaining. Though I'm sure I will be once it's payday. I wish he could be around all the time, but there are these unfortunate things called bills that don't care about my love and desire to have my husband around all the time. Pooie on them.

We ran to the hardware store this afternoon as I have a little project planned for my kitchen... I'll take pictures and show a before/after. I of course hoped it would be done tonight, but Jayme had different thoughts.

What I learned as a Mother today...

... that my son Jett

is the most tickle'ish

baby ever...

especially when he's neked.

MOPS

hmmm you are thinking... is Lara going to go on a rampage now about cleaning her house (again)... nope MOPS is a group I attend (with my friend Heather) that stands for Mothers of PreSchoolers. They offer childcare (the reason I joined) while the Mothers socialize and enjoy different activities like crafts, guest speakers etc.

Today was a counselor on parenting. I was able to learn about all the stuff I do wrong (ha ha) seriously it was some nice incite on brain development of children and lots of hand outs I"m going to read during nap time.

Speaking of nap time it's about time I round up my girls and get ready for Mommies favorite time of day (did I say that out loud?)

Why Hello there! Thanks for stopping by...

So I'm not new to the blogging world, but this is our first family blog. I will do my best to remember it's a family blog and not a venting blog. I think I might have the tendency to do that, with having 3 little ones at home and all.

I really enjoy reading other ppls blogs, from family members to crafty bloggers I find, friends and just about any other blogs that catch my attention. I like to secretly read blogs from my friends/family's 'favorites' lists...
So no big needs for introductions... I'm sure everyone reading this knows at least a few things about us. There are a few things about blogging that I like and that I dislike.

Like~ lots of updates
Dislike~ stagnate blogs
Like~ pictures
Dislike~ and long winded explanation when a picture will suffice
Like~ lots of comments
Dislike~ not receiving comments

So what's going on with us lately... hmmm

Jett~ standing up on everything, laughs alot at his sisters, just starting saying "mum mum mum"

Keera~ is officially potty trained, and getting night trained right now, loves wearing a blond wig in the dress up box from Nanna & Poppa, I just signed her up for preschool in the fall; 1 day a week.

Ella~ just got signed up for an outdoor soccer league starting in May, and I think she'll rock at this, is pretty defiant these days, I just signed her up for preschool 2x a week for the fall.

Jayme~working, working, working, he's looking forward to his quadding trip in June

Lara~is working on a new quilt/duvet cover for her room, started a small sewing 'business' and has done 3 jobs so far, is dreaming of her next vacation

We'll leave it at that and post some pictures....

Miss Ella

Keera all princess'ed up and stayed that way for hours..
